The parable of the Wicked Tenants
Hear another parable: There was a man that was a householder, which planted a
vineyard, and set a hedge about it, and digged a winepress in it, and built a
tower, and let it out to husbandmen, and went into another country. And when
the season of the fruits drew near, he sent his servants to the husbandmen, to
receive his fruits. And the husbandmen took his servants, and beat one, and
killed another, and stoned another. Again, he sent other servants more than
the first: and they did unto them in like manner. But afterward he sent unto
them his son, saying, They will reverence my son. But the husbandmen, when
they saw the son, said among themselves, This is the heir; come, let us kill
him, and take his inheritance. And they took him, and cast him forth out of
the vineyard, and killed him. When therefore the lord of the vineyard shall
come, what will he do unto those husbandmen?
[The people: He will miserably destroy those miserable men, and will let out
the vineyard unto other husbandmen, which shall render him the fruits in their
seasons.]

The Parable of the Two Debtors
Therefore is the kingdom of heaven likened unto a certain king, which would
make a reckoning with his servants. And when he had begun to reckon, one was
brought unto him, which owed him ten thousand talents. But forasmuch as he had
not wherewith to pay, his lord commanded him to be sold, and his wife, and
children, and all that he had, and payment to be made. The servant therefore
fell down and worshipped him, saying, Lord, have patience with me, and I will
pay thee all. And the lord of that servant, being moved with compassion,
released him, and forgave him the debt. But that servant went out, and found
one of his fellow-servants, which owed him a hundred pence: and he laid hold
on him, and took him by the throat, saying, Pay what thou owest. So his
fellow-servant fell down and besought him, saying, Have patience with me, and
I will pay thee. And he would not: but went and cast him into prison, till he
should pay that which was due. So when his fellow-servants saw what was done,
they were exceeding sorry, and came and told unto their lord all that was
done. Then his lord called him unto him, and saith to him, Thou wicked
servant, I forgave thee all that debt, because thou besoughtest me: shouldest
not thou also have had mercy on thy fellow-servant, even as I had mercy on
thee? And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors, till he
should pay all that was due. So shall also my heavenly Father do unto you, if
ye forgive not every one his brother from your
hearts. m1823-35
3 God's Providence
[The multitude: Our fathers ate the manna in the wilderness; as it is written,
He gave them bread out of heaven to eat.]
Verily, verily, I say unto you, It was not Moses that gave you the bread out
of heaven; but my Father giveth you the true bread out of heaven. For the
bread of God is that which cometh down out of heaven, and giveth life unto the
world.
j0631-3
Have faith in God. Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall say unto this
mountain, Be thou taken up and cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his
heart, but shall believe that what he saith cometh to pass; he shall have it.
k1122-3/m2121
Again I say unto you, that if two of you shall agree on earth as touching
anything that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is
in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I
in the midst of them.
m1819-20
Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall
be opened unto you: for everyone that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh
findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. Or what man is there of
you, who, if his son shall ask him for a loaf, will give him a stone; or if he
shall ask for a fish, will give him a serpent? If ye then, being evil, know
how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father
which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?
m0707-11/l1109-13
Ye did not choose me, but I chose you, and appointed you, that you should go
and bear fruit, and that your fruit should abide: that whatsoever ye shall ask
of the Father in my name, he may give it unto you.
