7 What Think Ye of Christ? (cont'd)
[The devil: If thou art the Son of God,
command this stone that it become bread.]
It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone.
[And he led him up, and shewed him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment
of time.
To thee will I give all this authority, and the glory of them: for it hath
been delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it. If thou
therefore wilt worship before me, it shall all be thine.]
It is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou
serve.
[And he led him to Jerusalem, and set him on the pinnacle of the temple, If
thou art the Son of God, cast thyself down from hence: for it is written,
He shall give his angels charge concerning thee, to guard thee:
And,
On their hands they shall bear thee up,
Lest haply thou dash thy foot against a stone.]
Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God. l0403-12/m0403-10
Why callest thou me good? none is good, save one, even God.

Neither be ye called masters: for one is your master, even the Christ.

This generation is an evil generation: it seeketh after a sign; and there
shall no sign be given to it but the sign of Jonah. For even as Jonah became
a sign unto the Ninevites, so shall also the Son of man be to this
generation. The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgement with the
men of this generation, and shall condemn them: for she came from the ends
of the earth to hear the wisdom of Soloman; and behold, a greater than
Soloman is here. The men of Nineveh shall stand up in the judgement with
this generation, and shall condemn it: for they repented at the preaching of
Jonah; and behold, a greater than Jonah is here.
l1129-32/m1239-41
But I say unto you, that one greater
than the temple is here. m1206
[At Emmaus:] O foolish men, and slow of heart to believe in all that the
prophets have spoken! Behoved it not the Christ to suffer these things, and
to enter into his glory? l2425-6
Some Circumstances of His
Ministry
A prophet is not without honour, save in his own country, and among his own
kin, and in his own house.

For ye have the poor always with you; but me ye have not always.
m2611/k1407/j1208
The foxes have holes, and the birds of the heaven have nests; but the Son of
man hath not where to lay his head.

Can ye make the sons of the bride-chamber fast, while the bridegroom is with
them?

His Personal Character
The Son of man is come eating and drinking; and ye say, Behold, a gluttonous
man, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners!
l0734/m1119
Ye call me, Master, and, Lord: and ye say well; for so I am. If I then, the
Lord and the Master, have washed your feet, ye also ought to wash one
another's feet. j1313-4
Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you
rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in
heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my
burden is light.
m1128-30
.... I am in the midst of you as he that serveth.
