19 COMMUNION (cont'd)

[Simon Peter: Lord, dost thou wash my feet?]
What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt understand hereafter.
[Peter: Thou shalt never wash my feet.]
If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me.
[Simon Peter: Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head.]
He that is bathed needeth not save to wash his feet, but is clean every whit: and ye are clean, but not all.
Ye are not all clean.
Know ye what I have done to you? Ye call me, Master, and, Lord: and ye say well; for so I am. If I then, the Lord and the Master, have washed your feet, ye also ought to wash one another's feet. For I have given you an example, that ye also should do as I have done to you. Verily, verily, I say unto you, A servant is not greater than his lord; neither one that is sent greater than he that sent him. If ye know these things, blessed are ye if ye do them. I speak not of you all: I know whom I have chosen: but that the scripture may be fulfilled, He that eateth my bread lifted up his heel against me. From henceforth I tell you before it come to pass, that, when it is come to pass, ye may believe that I am he. Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that receiveth whomsoever I send receiveth me; and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me.                                                                                                                                                           j1306-20

Verily I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me.
[Every one: Is it I, Lord?]
He that dipped his hand with me in the dish, the same shall betray me. The Son of man goeth, even as it is written of him: but woe unto that man through whom the Son of man is betrayed! good were it for that man if he had not been born.
[Judas: Is it I, Rabbi?]
Thou hast said.                                                                                                                                               m2621-5/k1417-21/l2221-3

With desire I have desired to eat this passover with you before I suffer: for I say unto you, I will not eat it, until it be fulfilled in the kingdom of God.
[And he received a cup, and when he had given thanks, he said,]
Take this, and divide it among yourselves: for I say unto you, I will not drink from henceforth of the fruit of the vine, until the kingdom of God shall come.
[And he took bread, and when he had given thanks, he brake it, and gave to them, saying,]
This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me.
[And the cup in like manner after supper, saying,]
This cup is the new covenant in my blood, even that which is poured out for you.                                                   l2215-20/1Cor1123-4

Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.                                                                               m1128

[Jesus therefore, being wearied with the journey, sat thus by the well. It was about the sixth hour. There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus saith unto her,] Give me to drink.
[The Samaritan woman: How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, which am a Samaritan woman?]
If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.
[The woman: Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water? Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his sons, and his cattle?]
Every one that drinketh of this water shall thirst again: but whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall become in him a well of water springing up unto eternal life.
[The woman: Sir, give me this water, that I thirst not, neither come all the way hither to draw.]
Go, call thy husband, and come hither.
[The woman: I have no husband.]
Thou saith well, I have no husband: for thou hast had five husbands; and he whom thou now hast is not thy husband: this hast thou said truly.
[The woman: Sir, I perceive that thou art a prophet. Our fathers worshipped in this mountain; and ye say, that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship.]
Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when neither in this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, shall ye worship the Father. Ye worship that which ye know not: we worship that which we know: for salvation is from the Jews. But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and truth: for such doth the Father seek to be his worshippers. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship in spirit and truth.
[The woman: I know that Messiah cometh (which is called Christ): when he is come, he will declare unto us all things.]
I that speak unto thee am he.                                                                                                                                   (cont'd on next page)
