15 JUDGMENT & SALVATION (cont'd)
8 Personal Judgment (cont'd)
And if thy brother sin against thee, go, shew him his fault
between thee and him alone: if he hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother. But
if he hear thee not, take with thee one or two more, that at the mouth of two
witnesses or three every word may be established. And if he refuse to hear
them, tell it unto the church: and if he refuse to hear the church also, let
him be unto thee as the Gentile and the publican. Verily I say unto you, What
things soever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and what things
soever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. Again I say unto
you, that if two of you shall agree on earth as touching anything that they
shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven. For
where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst
of them.
[Peter: Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him?
until seven times?]
I say not unto thee, Until seven times; but, Until seventy times seven.
Therefore is the kingdom of heaven likened unto a certain king, which would
make a reckoning with his servants. And when he had begun to reckon, one was
brought unto him, which owed him ten thousand talents. But forasmuch as he had
not wherewith to pay, his lord commanded him to be sold, and his wife, and
children, and all that he had, and payment to be made. The servant therefore
fell down and worshipped him, saying, Lord, have patience with me, and I will
pay thee all. And the lord of that servant, being moved with compassion,
released him, and forgave him the debt. But that servant went out, and found
one of his fellow-servants, which owed him a hundred pence: and he laid hold
on him, and took him by the throat, saying, Pay what thou owest. So his
fellow-servant fell down and besought him, saying, Have patience with me, and
I will pay thee. And he would not: but went and cast him into prison, till he
should pay that which was due. So when his fellow-servants saw what was done,
they were exceeding sorry, and came and told unto their lord all that was
done. Then his lord called him unto him, and saith to him, Thou wicked
servant, I forgave thee all that debt, because thou besoughtest me: shouldest
not thou also have had mercy on thy fellow-servant, even as I had mercy on
thee? And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors, till he
should pay all that was due. So shall also my heavenly Father do unto you, if
ye forgive not every one his brother from your hearts.
m1815-35/l1703-4
Be ye merciful, even as your Father is merciful.
l0636
And forgive us our sins; for we ourselves also forgive every one that is
indebted to us.
l1104/m0612
Take heed what ye hear: with what measure ye mete it shall be measured unto
you: and more shall be given unto you. For he that hath, to him shall be
given: and he that hath not, from him shall be taken away even that which he
hath.
k0424-5
[The scribes and Pharisees: Master, this woman hath been taken in adultery, in
the very act. Now in the law Moses commanded us to stone such: what then
sayest thou of her?]
[Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground.]
He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.
Woman, where are they? did no man condemn thee?
[No man, Lord.]
Neither do I condemn thee: go thy way; from henceforth sin no more.
j0804-11
All things therefore whatsoever ye would that men should do unto you, even so
do ye also unto them: for this is the law and the prophets.
m0712/l0631
And whensoever ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have aught against any one;
that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.
k1125
Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art with him in the way; lest
haply the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to
the officer, and thou be cast into prison. Verily I say unto thee, Thou shalt
by no means come out thence, till thou have paid the last farthing. m0525-6/l1258-9
But go ye and learn what this meaneth, I desire mercy, and not sacrifice: for
I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.
m0913
Example
Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost its savour, wherewith
shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out and
trodden under foot of men. Ye are the light of the world. A city set on a hill
cannot be hid. Neither do men light a lamp, and put it under the bushel, but
on the stand; and it shineth unto all that are in the house. Even so let your
light shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your
Father which is in heaven. m0513-6/l1434-5/k0950
Of a truth I say unto you, This poor widow cast in more than they all: for all
these did of their superfluity cast in unto the gifts: but she of her want did
cast in all the living that she had.
