15 JUDGMENT & SALVATION (cont'd)
6 Paradox in Judgment (cont'd)
The Lowly take precedence
.... for he that is least among you all, the same is great.
l0948
This poor widow cast in more than they all: for all these did of their
superfluity cast in unto the gifts: but she of her want did cast in all the
living that she had.
l2103-4
Ye know that they which are accounted to rule over the Gentiles lord it over
them; and their great ones exercise authority over them. But it is not so
among you: but whosoever would become great among you, shall be your minister:
and whosoever would be first among you, shall be servant of all. For verily
the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give
his life a ransom for many.

Verily I say unto you, Except ye turn, and become as little children, ye shall
in no wise enter into the kingdom of heaven. Whosoever therefore shall humble
himself as this little child, the same is the greatest in the kingdom of
heaven.
m1803-4
When thou art bidden of any man to a marriage feast, sit not down in the chief
seat; lest haply a more honourable man than thou be bidden of him, and he that
bade thee and him shall come and say to thee, Give this man place; and then
thou shalt begin with shame to take the lowest place. But when thou art
bidden, go and sit down in the lowest place; that when he that hath bidden
thee cometh, he may say to thee, Friend, go up higher: then shalt thou have
glory in the presence of all that sit at meat with thee. For every one that
exalteth himself shall be humbled; and he that humbleth himself shall be
exalted.
When thou makest a dinner or a supper, call not thy friends, nor thy brethren,
nor thy kinsmen, nor rich neighbours; lest haply they also bid thee again, and
a recompense be made thee. But when thou makest a feast, bid the poor, the
maimed, the lame, the blind: and thou shalt be blessed; because they have not
wherewith to recompense thee: for thou shalt be recompensed in the
resurrection of the just.

Sinners first
Verily I say unto you, that the publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom
of God before you.
m2131
Zacchaeus, make haste, and come down; for today I must abide at thy house.
[He is gone in to lodge with a man that is a sinner.]
[Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have
wrongfully exacted aught of any man, I restore fourfold.]
Today is salvation come to this house, forasmuch as he also is a son of
Abraham. For the Son of man came to seek and to save that which was lost.
l1905-10
Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a
publican. The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee,
that I am not as the rest of men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as
this publican. I fast twice in the week; I give tithes of all that I get. But
the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto
heaven, but smote his breast, saying, God, be merciful to me a sinner. I say
unto you, This man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for
every one that exalteth himself shall be humbled; but he that humbleth himself
shall be exalted. l1810-4
For judgement came I into this world, that they which see not may see; and
that they which see may become blind.
j0939
But go ye and learn what this meaneth, I desire mercy, and not sacrifice: for
I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.
