13 VOCATION (cont'd)
8 The Future (cont'd)
[Peter: Lo, we have left all, and followed thee; what then
shall we have?]
Verily I say unto you, that ye which have followed me, in the regeneration
when the Son of man shall sit on the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit
upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. And every one that
hath left houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or children,
or lands, for my name's sake, shall receive a hundredfold, [Mark adds: with
persecutions] and shall inherit eternal life. But many shall be last that are
first; and first that are last.

What wouldest thou?
[The mother of the sons of Zebedee: Command that these my two sons may sit,
one on thy right hand, and one on thy left hand, in thy kingdom.]
Ye know not what ye ask. Are ye able to drink the cup that I am about to
drink?
[The sons of Zebedee: We are able.]
My cup indeed ye shall drink: but to sit on my right hand, and on my left
hand, is not mine to give, but it is for them for whom it hath been prepared
of my Father. m2021-3/k1036-40
For it is as when a man, going into another country, called his own servants,
and delivered unto them his goods. And unto one he gave five talents, to
another two, to another one; to each according to his several ability; and he
went on his journey. Straightway he that received the five talents went and
traded with them, and made other five talents. In like manner he also that
received the two gained other two. But he that received the one went away and
digged in the earth, and hid his lord's money. Now after a long time the lord
of those servants cometh, and maketh a reckoning with them. And he that
received the five talents came and brought other five talents, saying, Lord,
thou deliveredst unto me five talents: lo, I have gained other five talents.
His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant: thou hast been
faithful over a few things, I will set thee over many things: enter thou into
the joy of thy lord. And he also that received the two talents came and said,
Lord, thou deliveredst unto me two talents: lo, I have gained other two
talents. His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; thou
hast been faithful over a few things, I will set thee over many things: enter
thou into the joy of thy lord. And he also that had received the one talent
came and said, Lord, I knew thee that thou art a hard man, reaping where thou
didst not sow, and gathering where thou didst not scatter: and I was afraid,
and went away and hid thy talent in the earth: lo, thou hast thine own. But
his lord answered and said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou
knewest that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I did not scatter;
thou oughtest therefore to have put my money to the bankers, and at my coming
I should have received back mine own with interest. Take ye away therefore the
talent from him, and give it unto him that hath the ten talents. For unto
every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him
that hath not, even that which he hath shall be taken away. And cast ye out
the unprofitable servant into the outer darkness: there shall be the weeping
and gnashing of teeth.
m2514-30/l1911-7
For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and
then shall he render unto every man according to his deeds. Verily I say unto
you, There be some of them that stand here, which shall in no wise taste of
death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom.
m1627-8/l0926-7/k0838-0901
If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my
servant be: if any man serve me, him will the Father honour.
j1226
And the glory which thou hast given me I have given unto them; that they may
be one, even as we are one; I in them, and thou in me, that they may be
perfected into one; that the world may know that thou didst send me, and
lovedst them, even as thou lovedst me.
j1722-3
Behold, I have given you authority to tread upon serpents and scorpions, and
over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall in any wise hurt you.
Howbeit in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but
rejoice that your names are written in heaven.
