And he that was sown upon the rocky places, this is he that heareth the word, and straightway with joy receiveth it; yet hath he not root in himself, but endureth for a while; and when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, straightway he stumbleth.

Therefore also said the wisdom of God, I will send unto them prophets and
apostles; and some of them they shall kill and persecute; that the blood of
all the prophets, which was shed from the foundation of the world, may be

Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise
as serpents, and harmless as doves. But beware of men: for they will deliver
you up to councils, and in their synagogues they will scourge you; yea and
before governors and kings shall ye be brought for my sake, for a testimony to
them and to the Gentiles.

girdedst thyself, and walkedst whither thou wouldest: but when thou shalt be
old, thou shalt stretch forth thy hands, and another shall gird thee, and
carry thee whither thou wouldest not.

Nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall
be great earthquakes, and in divers places famines and pestilences; and there
shall be terrors and great signs from heaven. But before all these things,
they shall lay their hands on you, and shall persecute you, delivering you up
to the synagogues and prisons, bringing you before kings and governors for my
name's sake.

And the gospel must first be preached unto all the nations. And when they lead
you to judgement, and deliver you up, be not anxious beforehand what ye shall
speak: but whatsoever shall be given you in that hour, that speak ye: for it
is not ye that speak, but the Holy Ghost. And brother shall deliver up brother
to death, and the father his child; and children shall rise up against
parents, and cause them to be put to death. And ye shall be hated of all men
for my name's sake: but he that endureth to the end, the same shall be saved.

These things I command you, that ye love one another. If the world hateth you,
ye know that it hath hated me before it hated you. If ye were of the world,
the world would love its own: but because ye are not of the world, but I chose
you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.

These things have I spoken unto you, that ye should not be made to stumble.
They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the hour cometh, that whosoever
killeth you shall think that he offereth service unto God. And these things
will they do, because they have not known the Father, nor me. But these things
have I spoken unto you, that when their hour is come, ye may remember them,
how that I told you. And these things I said not unto you from the beginning,
because I was with you.
