The Sword

Think not that I came to send peace on the earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.                                                 m1034/l1251

When I sent you forth without purse, and wallet, and shoes, lacked ye anything?
[The disciples: Nothing.]
But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise a wallet: and he that hath none, let him sell his cloke, and buy a sword. For I say unto you, that this which is written must be fulfilled in me, And he was reckoned with transgressors: for that which concerneth me hath fulfilment.
[Lord, behold, here are two swords.]
It is enough.                                                                                                                                                                                    l2235-8

[The disciples: Lord, shall we smite with the sword?]
[The High Priest's servant's ear having been struck off:]
Suffer ye thus far.
[And he touched his ear, and healed him.]                                                                                                                                    l2249-51

Put up the sword into the sheath: ....                                                                                                                                     j1811/m2652

.... if my kingdom were of this world, them would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.                                                                                                                                                                                        j1836

Support from God: Father, Son & Holy Spirit
[To the Twelve:] Take nothing for your journey, neither staff, nor wallet, nor bread, nor money; neither have two coats.

                                                                                                                                                                          l0903/m1009-10/k0608-9

Go your ways: behold, I send you forth as lambs in the midst of wolves. Carry no purse, no wallet, no shoes: and salute no man on the way.                                                                                                                                                                                                l1003-4

He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto the Father. And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask me anything in my name, that will I do. If ye love me, ye will keep my commandments. And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth: whom the world cannot receive; for it beholdeth him not, neither knoweth him: ye know him; for he abideth with you, and shall be in you. I will not leave you desolate: I come unto you. Yet a little while, and the world beholdeth me no more; but ye behold me: because I live, ye shall live also. In that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you. He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself unto him.
[Judas (not Iscariot): Lord, what is come to pass that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world?]
If a man love me, he will keep my word: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. He that loveth me not keepeth not my words: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's who sent me.                             j1412-24

I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman. Every branch in me that beareth not fruit, he taketh it away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he cleanseth it, that it may bear more fruit. Already ye are clean because of the word which I have spoken unto you. Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; so neither can ye, except ye abide in me. I am the vine, ye are the branches: he that abideth in me, and I in him, the same beareth much fruit: for apart from me ye can do nothing. If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and they gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned. If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatsoever ye will, and it shall be done unto you.                               j1501-7

These things have I spoken unto you in proverbs: the hour cometh, when I shall no more speak unto you in proverbs, but shall tell you plainly of the Father. In that day ye shall ask in my name: and I say not unto you, that I will pray the Father for you; for the Father himself loveth you, because you have loved me, and have believed that I came forth from the Father.                                                     j1625-7

Again I say unto you, that if two of you shall agree on earth as touching anything that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.              m1819-20
