Mission of The Twelve (cont'd)
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by
the door into the fold of the sheep, but climbeth up some other way, the same
is a thief and a robber. But he that entereth in by the door is the shepherd
of the sheep. To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he
calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out. When he hath put forth
all his own, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his
voice. And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they
know not the voice of strangers. j1001-5
Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my
Father's house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you;
for I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you,
I come again, and will receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may
be also. And whither I go, ye know the way.
[Thomas: Lord, we know not whither thou goest; how know we the way?]
I am the way, and the truth, and the life: no one cometh unto the Father, but
by me. If ye had known me, ye would have known my Father also: from henceforth
ye know him, and have seen him.
[Philip: Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us.]
Have I been so long time with you, and dost thou not know me, Philip? he that
hath seen me hath seen the Father; how sayest thou, Shew us the Father?
Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words
that I say unto you I speak not from myself: but the Father abiding in me
doeth his works. Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or
else believe me for the very works' sake. Verily, verily, I say unto you, He
that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works
than these shall he do; because I go unto the Father. And whatsoever ye shall
ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
If ye shall ask me anything in my name, that will I do. If ye love me, ye will
keep my commandments. And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you
another Comforter, that he may be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth:
whom the world cannot receive; for it beholdeth him not, neither knoweth him:
ye know him; for he abideth with you, and shall be in you. I will not leave
you desolate: I come unto you. Yet a little while, and the world beholdeth me
no more; but ye behold me: because I live, ye shall live also. In that day ye
shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you. He that hath my
commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me
shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself
unto him.
[Judas (not Iscariot): Lord, what is come to pass that thou wilt manifest
thyself unto us, and not unto the world?]
If a man love me, he will keep my word: and my Father will love him, and we
will come unto him, and make our abode with him. He that loveth me not keepeth
not my words: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's who
sent me.

Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer, and rise again from the
dead the third day; and that repentance and remission of sins should be
preached in his name unto all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem. Ye are
witnesses of these things. And behold, I send forth the promise of my Father
upon you: but tarry ye in the city, until ye be clothed with power from on
high.
l2446-9
Peace be unto you: as the Father hath sent me, even so send I you.

Mission of The Seventy
[Now after these things the Lord appointed seventy others, and sent them
two and two before his face into every city and place, whither he himself was
about to come.]
The harvest is plenteous, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the
Lord of the harvest, that he send forth labourers into his harvest. Go your
ways: behold, I send you forth as lambs in the midst of wolves. Carry no
purse, no wallet, no shoes: and salute no man on the way. And into whatsoever
house ye shall enter, first say, Peace be to this house. And if a son of peace
be there, your peace shall rest upon him: but if not, it shall turn to you
again. And in that same house remain, eating and drinking such things as they
give: for the labourer is worthy of his hire. Go not from house to house. And
into whatsoever city ye enter, and they receive you, eat such things as are
set before you: and heal the sick that are therein, and say unto them, The
kingdom of God is come nigh unto you. But into whatsoever city ye shall enter,
and they receive you not, go out into the streets thereof and say, even the
dust from your city, that cleaveth to our feet, we do wipe off against you:
howbeit know this, that the kingdom of God is come nigh.
l1001-11
[And the seventy returned with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject
unto us in thy name.]
I beheld Satan fallen as lightning from heaven. Behold, I have given you
authority to tread upon serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the
enemy: and nothing shall in any wise hurt you. Howbeit in this rejoice not,
that the spirits are subject unto you; but rejoice that your names are written
in heaven.
