 13 VOCATION (cont'd)

Commitment

If any man would come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. For whosoever would save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it.                                                     l0923-4/m1624-5/k0834-5

Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a grain of wheat fall into the earth and die, it abideth by itself alone; but if it die, it beareth much fruit. He that loveth his life loseth it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal. If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will the Father honour.                                             j1224-6

And other fell into the good ground, and grew, and brought forth fruit a hundredfold.                                                 l0808/k0408/m1308

And that in the good ground, these are such as in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, hold it fast, and bring forth fruit with patience.                                                                                                                                                                                            l0815

And if thy hand or thy foot causeth thee to stumble, cut it off, and cast it from thee: it is good for thee to enter into life maimed or halt, rather than having two hands or two feet to be cast into the eternal fire. And if thine eye causeth thee to stumble, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: it is good for thee to enter into life with one eye, rather than having two eyes to be cast into the hell of fire. m1808-9/k0943-5

[To the rich young man:] One thing thou lackest: go, sell whatever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me.                                                                                                                                   k1021/l1822/m1921

All men cannot receive this saying, but they to whom it is given. For there are eunuchs, which were so born from their mother's womb: and there are eunuchs, which were made eunuchs by men: and there are eunuchs, which made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven's sake. He that is able to receive it, let him receive it.                                                                                                  m1911-2

[Peter: Lo, we have left all, and followed thee; what then shall we have?]
Verily I say unto you, that ye which have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit on the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. And every one that hath left houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or children, or lands, for my name's sake, shall receive a hundredfold, and shall inherit eternal life.

                                                                                                                                                        m1927-9/l1828-30&2228-9/k1028-30

Who is my mother? and who are my brethren?
[And he stretched forth his hand towards his disciples.] Behold, my mother and my brethren! For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, he is my brother, and sister, and mother.                                                                                        m1248-50/k0333-5

My mother and my brethren are these which hear he word of God, and do it.                                                                                    l0821

Follow me.
[Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father.]
Leave the dead to bury their own dead; but go thou and publish abroad the kingdom of God.
[Another: I will follow thee, Lord; but first suffer me to bid farewell to them that are at my house.]
No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.                                        l0959-62/m0821-2

But ye shall be delivered up even by parents, and brethren, and kinsfolk, and friends; and some of you shall they cause to be put to death. And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake. And not a hair of your head shall perish. In your patience ye shall win your souls.                                                                                                                                                                                l2116-9/k1312-3
